Elegy

Too many of you lie in the earth or burned to ash,
human sacrifices to the god of the streets,
random in his wrath,
exotic in his appetites.
No songs are sung for you,
our hearts too heavy with grief to form the words.
Death has found you too soon,
your lights extinguished before they began to shine.
